Q
How hot do the cables get to the touch?Giancarlo V on Oct 24, 2017
A
Best answer Hello Giancarlo, thank you for your question. These De-icing cables have a heat output of approximately 65-75F. It is not hot enough to burn your hand but certainly hot enough to melt built up snow and ice. The cables will certainly keep your gutters clear.

Q
Can the cable be in the ground 6 inches?joe c. on Oct 30, 2017
A
Best answer Hello Joe, thank you for your question. These de-icing cables could be buried in the ground but 6 inches could potentially be too deep and the heat might not be able to penetrate the ground to warm the surface. We have other cables that are specifically intended to be buried under dirt, asphalt, concrete, etc. Please look at out Driveway Heating Cable section.

Q
Can the cable be installed inside the sump pump drainage pipe outside? I could make a T with PVC to ensure air can get in to drain and to have a place the "plug-in end" of the cable can come out.Yvon D. on Jan 08, 2018
A
Best answer Hello Yvon, thank you for your question. Our outdoor de-icing cables are intended to be used on roof tops and inside gutters. That being said, we cannot recommend using these cables for something that it is not intended for. We only recommend to use these cables for their intended use.

Q
At what temperature is the thermostat set to kick on?Nicole B. on Mar 03, 2019
A
Best answer Hi Nicole, thanks for your question. The de-icing cable does not come with a thermostat, and the cable may have a compatibility issue if a thermostat is installed. The cable has a current limitation of 10A, and a thermostat may cause a short circuit or accident. The cable should only be operated when (1) snow or ice on the roof is melting, and (2) the outside temperature is between 15 and 35 Fahrenheit (-9 and 2 Celsius).

Q
Will this heating cable be suitable for laying INSIDE a 4" diameter PVC pipe - to prevent ice build-up ?Dale W. on Sep 29, 2017
A
Best answer Hello Dale, thank you for your question. We do not recommend to install these inside of the pipe but instead to wrap the outside of the pipe with the heating cable. We suggest to spiral the cable around the outside of the pipe and the spirals should be no more than 2-3 inches apart.

Q
other than the obvious tripping hazard, can this be used on the ground ? need to keep snow off my husband's wheelchair ramp (& yes, the chair would roll over it) thanks much !Michele C. on Oct 30, 2017
A
Best answer Hello Michelle, thank you for your question. In theory, yes you can certainly install these on the groun on the ramp and can go over it with the wheelchair. However, over time that can damage the outer PVC material that is protecting the cable and can eventually rip and expose the wire. There could be a better way to get this project to work with these cables. Please contact our customer support staff and we can discuss the ramp your using and see what is the best option.

Can I wrap the cable around a truck battery?marcel p. on Nov 17, 2017
A
Best answer Hello Marcel, thank you for your question. In theory, our Automatic Thermostatically Controlled Heating Cables can be wrapped around pretty much anything that is not flammable. That being said you could certainly wrap the cable around the battery but wouldnt recommend doing so inside the engine bay while the truck is running.
