How hot do the cables get to the touch?Giancarlo V on Oct 24, 2017
Best answer
Hello Giancarlo, thank you for your question. These De-icing cables have a heat output of approximately 65-75F. It is not hot enough to burn your hand but certainly hot enough to melt built up snow and ice. The cables will certainly keep your gutters clear.

Can the cable be in the ground 6 inches?joe c. on Oct 30, 2017
Best answer
Hello Joe, thank you for your question. These de-icing cables could be buried in the ground but 6 inches could potentially be too deep and the heat might not be able to penetrate the ground to warm the surface. We have other cables that are specifically intended to be buried under dirt, asphalt, concrete, etc. Please look at out Driveway Heating Cable section.

Can the cable be installed inside the sump pump drainage pipe outside? I could make a T with PVC to ensure air can get in to drain and to have a place the "plug-in end" of the cable can come out.Yvon D. on Jan 08, 2018
Best answer
Hello Yvon, thank you for your question. Our outdoor de-icing cables are intended to be used on roof tops and inside gutters. That being said, we cannot recommend using these cables for something that it is not intended for. We only recommend to use these cables for their intended use.

Can I wrap the cable around a truck battery?marcel p. on Nov 17, 2017
Best answer
Hello Marcel, thank you for your question. In theory, our Automatic Thermostatically Controlled Heating Cables can be wrapped around pretty much anything that is not flammable. That being said you could certainly wrap the cable around the battery but wouldnt recommend doing so inside the engine bay while the truck is running.

How high and how low can the thermostat be set at?Gregory B. on Jan 29, 2018
Best answer
Hello Gregory, thank you for your question. The thermostat on our automatic thermostatically controlled heating cables cannot be adjusted or set. Our heating cables come with their thermostats set at a preset temperature range from factory and cannot be changed. The cable is set to turn on when temps reach below 55 F (13 C) and shut off when gets above that temperature.

Is the PVC ice melting cable suitable for continuous immersion in water? I would like to insert it into an existing underground drain pipe that is usually full of water.Barry K. on Feb 15, 2017
Best answer
Thank you for your question Barry. These Outdoor De-icing cables are not designed to be placed in the water for a long period of time. The correct usage for this product would be to wrap the cable on the outside of the Piping, to keep the water from freezing. If you have any other questions about this product, please contact our knowledgeable customer support team! 1-888-667-5776

Hi! I want to de-ice a gutter during the winter. Do I install this unit inside the gutter or do I have to attach it on the outside of the gutter?Francois B. on Jun 26, 2017
Best answer
Hello Francois, thank you for your question. There are two recommended install sites for these De-Icing cables; 1. inside the gutter 2. Along the roof edge right above the gutter. Many of our customers either spiral/coil the cable inside the gutter or zigzag the cable on the roof edge where snow usually tends to build up. We've had customers do both in areas where heavy snowfall is expected.
