General Description

Outdoor De-Icing Cable – 30 M – 110 V - PVC

The driveway heating cable is 30 meters long and has a PVC coating. The cable has a voltage of 110 V along with a power of 300 W. Its resistance is 40.33 ohms.

Function
The outdoor de-icing cable heats up internally to raise the temperature of surrounding areas. An inner conductor produces the heat, which is surrounded by layers of PVC insulation and coating to ensure safe operation. One end of the cable plugs into an outlet, and the cable is flexible enough to be wrapped around piping and used on various types of roofs or as a gutter de-icing system.

Applications
The outdoor de-icing cable is used in both commercial and residential settings for freeze protection and to prevent roof damage. It can be used on a roof and gutters to avoid ice dams and snow buildup, around pipes to avoid bursting, and in gutters or downspouts to ensure proper drainage.

Hello, I see that you don't recommend that THE CABLE BE INSTALLED INSIDE THE SUMP PUMP DRAINAGE PVC PIPE OUTSIDE. Do you have a product that could be used for this application?

DEELAT does not have anything that would be suitable to be in water. Installing our heating cables submerged entirely in water is a potential electrical hazard and not safe. The cables can get wet but should not be completely submerged.

Can the cable be in the ground 6 inches?

DEELAT de-icing cables could be buried in the ground but 6 inches could potentially be too deep and the heat might not be able to penetrate the ground to warm the surface. We have other cables that are specifically intended to be buried under dirt, asphalt, concrete, etc. Please look at out Driveway Heating Cable section.

How hot do the cables get to the touch?

DEELAT De-icing cables have a heat output of approximately 65-75F. It is not hot enough to burn your hand but certainly hot enough to melt built up snow and ice. The cables will certainly keep your gutters clear.

At what temperature is the thermostat set to kick on?

The de-icing cable does not come with a thermostat, and the cable may have a compatibility issue if a thermostat is installed. The cable has a current limitation of 10A, and a thermostat may cause a short circuit or accident. The cable should only be operated when (1) snow or ice on the roof is melting, and (2) the outside temperature is between 15 and 35 Fahrenheit (-9 and 2 Celsius).

Can the cable be installed inside the sump pump drainage pipe outside? I could make a T with PVC to ensure air can get in to drain and to have a place the "plug-in end" of the cable can come out.

DEELAT's outdoor de-icing cables are intended to be used on roof tops and inside gutters. That being said, we cannot recommend using these cables for something that it is not intended for. We only recommend to use these cables for their intended use.

other than the obvious tripping hazard, can this be used on the ground ? need to keep snow off my husband's wheelchair ramp (& yes, the chair would roll over it) thanks much !

You can install these on the ground or the ramp and the wheelchair can still go over them. However, over time that can damage the outer PVC material that is protecting the cable and can eventually rip and expose the wire. There could be a better way to get this project to work with these cables. Please contact our customer support staff and we can discuss the ramp your using and see what is the best option.

Does the end of the cable need to be plugged into a electrical outlet or can it be connected to an extension cable? Reason for question is for downspout application - the end of the de-icing does not look long enough to reach outlet.

The de-icing cable can be connected with an extension cord but the cord must be weather resistant since it will be outdoors. It will be ideal not to use an extension cord but if there is no other option you should be OK using one.

If I put this on my driveway in the morning and it works all day and melts the ice, when I get home 8 hours later, can I drive up my driveway into the garage with it still on the driveway or do I have to remove it from the driveway first?

We do not recommend driving on these cables. We do offer driveway heating cables that are specifically made for driveways, however, they are designed to be laid under the asphalt or concrete not on top. If you are looking for something temporary that you can remove when not needed then yes these deicing cable will work. Can they be laid under an insulated tarp to prevent the ground from freezing?

DEELAT's heating cables can be put under an insulated tarp and it should give off heat to prevent the ground from freezing but these de-icing cables are not intended to be used that way. We have another type of heating cables under the category "Driveway Heating Cables", these cables are designed to be buried under asphalt, dirt, concrete, etc. I think the driveway heating cables would work better to keep the ground from freezing if you bury them roughly 2 inches below the ground you are trying to keep from freezing.

Unfortunately our deicing cables are intended to be used only while it's snowing or if there is ice build up. The cables aren't designed to be used to heat an area but rather just melt ice and snow. They should not be left on for long periods of time just until the snow or ice has completely melted.

We have a 3000 sqft commercial freezer storage building. When the floor was installed we ran 6" PVC pipes the length of the freezer to allow for cold air to escape and condensation to form. In the winter months in Upstate New York, the condensation that forms cannot get pumped out, thus it freezes and blocks the tube for aiur circulation. We are thinking that if we run your de-icing cable through the vent tubes, it would keep that condensation accumulation from freezing and we would be able to pump the tubes out. We would probably need 2 or 3, since the PVC is on 4' centers, and we realize we need seperat electric sources. Does this sound like it would work?

Yes that would work with no problems.

There are two recommended install sites for these De-Icing cables; 1. inside the gutter 2. Along the roof edge right above the gutter. Many of our customers either spiral/coil the cable inside the gutter or zigzag the cable on the roof edge where snow usually tends to build up. DEELAT's deicing cables will certainly work to keep your hose from freezing over, however, laying these on the pressboard could be an issue.
